Consumption of milk, fruits and vegetables helps smokers to get rid of bad habits, say the American scientists. The reason for the phenomenon lies in the unique sensations: these natural products worsen the taste of cigarette smoke.
The findings are based on medical data survey, conducted among 209 smokers at the initiative of the Medical Center at Duke University. They were asked to name foods or beverages that worsen or, conversely, improve the taste of tobacco. 19% of respondents said that taste is deteriorating if they consume dairy products. 14% of respondents gave a similar assessment of beverages without caffeine, such as water or juice, and 16% did not recommend that there are vegetables and fruits before the break.
On the contrary, alcohol is able to improve the taste of smoke (so said 44% of respondents), and even more attractive in terms of smoking are drinks with caffeine such as coffee, tea or colas (45%). Among other products, the taste is not discouraged the desire to smoke, 11% of respondents named meat. Curiously, fans of menthol cigarettes with less attention to such things: for them, the taste of cigarettes almost no change.
The authors believe that the theoretically possible to develop a special "anti-" diet, which damage the tobacco taste and will be an additional incentive for those who wish to quit smoking. "Having made some changes in your diet - for example, include a glass of cold milk and the deletion of the beer - smokers can get rid of bad habits with less pain", - assured by Professor Joseph Makklernon, head of research.
In addition, physicians expect to use in programs to help quit smoking, silver acetate, which is known, also makes the taste of cigarettes for a person unattractive. Chemical additives could be disseminated in the form of candy or chewing gum. But scientists warn that the new method by itself is unlikely to guarantee the complete abandonment of the smoker of cigarettes. In their view, it is necessary to use an integrated treatment, combining the "tobacco" diet is already known methods of nicotine substitute, when the body receives some of the usual dose of nicotine in the form of patch or chewing.
